Quick start

One URL, any series

All endpoints live under https://fdistats.com/api/v1 and respond to plain HTTP GET. Values in US$ are expressed in millions; add format=csv to the series and cross-section endpoints for a spreadsheet-ready file.

GET/api/v1/series

Time series

Annual values for one indicator and up to 50 economies or aggregates. Returns 400 with an error message for an unknown indicator or country code.

Query parameters

GET/api/v1/cross-section

Cross-section (all economies, one year)

Every economy with data for the chosen year, ranked by value (descending). Aggregates are excluded.

Indicator catalogue

Metadata for every indicator: source code, unit, description, latest well-covered year and when the source was last updated.

Countries and aggregates

All 295 codes the API understands: 217 economies with World Bank region and income group, plus aggregates (flagged aggregate: true).

Fair use

Caching, freshness & licence

Freshness. Responses are served from a data snapshot that is regenerated weekly from the official World Bank and OECD APIs (npm run data:refresh). This snapshot was generated on 28 September 2026.
Caching. Responses are cached at the edge for 24 hours (s-maxage=86400), so repeated calls are fast. There is no API key and no hard rate limit — please cache results on your side rather than polling.
CORS. Every endpoint sends Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *, so you can call it directly from browser code.
Licence and attribution. The underlying data are published under CC BY 4.0. Please credit the original source — “World Bank, World Development Indicators” or “OECD” as appropriate — and mention fdistats.com.
Coverage. The API currently serves the World Bank indicators listed above. OECD datasets (bilateral positions, FDI restrictiveness) are shown on the Who invests where and FDI openness pages.
Stability. The v1 response shapes are stable; new fields may be added. Questions or requests? Get in touch.
